A bit of a quick lesson

I recently did a shoot with Eddie Hall again for his BooHooMAN clothing promotion, it started off with slight chaos as Eddie was running slightly late and also forgot his camera which he requested me to use for the shoot. With this being requested I didn’t bring my own camera as it would just be sat in my car, this was lesson one, always bring your equipment!

So after running home to get my gear and getting in to start the shoot I had to quickly get my camera set up for the indoor shoot as I last used it outdoors in very bright lighting. This brings me to lesson two which is to make sure you are checking your EV compensation when shooting because I didn’t and I was shooting indoors with my camera screen on full brightness.

For those that aren’t sure what the issue is here, having a bright monitor indoors and using it to take and review pictures can be very misleading on how your photos are exposed. So in short it shows a bright and correctly exposed photo but in reality when you get them off the camera they will be dark and underexposed.

Whilst I was frustrated with this mistake at the time it has taught me something that I now use constantly when shooting. Now I have a much better understanding about how my camera assesses exposure and how I can be more confident that I have got a photo exposed exactly how I want it.

Luckily I was able to salvage the images I got as they weren't too underexposed and I am happy with how they turned out!
